Wheat Imports to Iran Decreased

TEHRAN Nov. 7 (Mehr News Agency) – Iran reduced wheat imports during the first half of the current Iranian year (ending March 20, 2004), Iran’s Customs Office reported.

Iran imported some $82 million worth of wheat this year that shows a remarkable 73 percent decrease when compared with the corresponding period last year. It then resulted in saving about $224 million of reserve funds according to the report.

 

Meanwhile, it added that, during the aforesaid period, wheat imports comprise only 0.5 percent of Iran’s total imports while it recorded a 2.5 percent share of the total volume last year.

 

However, the report indicated that more than $15 billion worth of various goods and services were imported to the country in the period, which corroborates 21.5 percent increase compared with the previous figure.
